Here's Your Hat, What's Your Hurry?
*Looks around at the bra hanging from the chandelier, red wine stains on the carpet, extinguished cigarettes in the planters* Sheesh, I think this party's gotten out of hand. Who knew my avoidance of crowds would have a bearing on my blog? Although it's been fun to see de-lurking week spread so far and wide, and I have a lot of new blogs to visit.
Bloggers can't ever say that we just do this for ourselves, and we don't care what anyone thinks (oh yeah? then have at it, in a spiral notebook!). I can say that I do this mostly for me, and for the 10% of you who feel an affinity for me or my writing. So the rest of you, take your damn buttons and get out! Just kidding! Sort of.
Anyway, not much has been happening around here. Well, I've been wading through a lot of mental sludge, so I guess I'll say nothing much to write about here. I signed the kids up for swimming. I've been getting a lot out of Blogging The Artist's Way, and there's still time, if you want to join!
Oh yeah-- I saw The Producers. I wanted to like it, I tried to like it, but arf, what a dog. The problem is an actor stands 20 feet tall on a movie screen, and when your eye is three feet across, a blink can convey a lot. (Okay, the proportions may not be accurate, but you get my point, also how many more times can I say "a lot" in this entry? If I make it to 10 do I win a prize?) The over-the-top schtick of The Producers suits the stage, but flops at the movies. Uma Thurman and Will Ferrell redeemed about 9 1/2 minutes, but the rest was schlock.
And from the I-want-to-see-a-movie-short-of-that files
Will: (deadly serious) Squirrels eat people, mama.
Me: (wide-eyed) Really? What happens then?
Will: (shrugs nonchalantly) They choke.

De-lurking to say HI. I totally do it for the comments - ha!

Hi Happy DLW!!
that's too bad about the Producer's I had heard it was good and I really like Nathan Lane, not so sure about Jason Alexander, although I loved him in Seinfeld. btw my husband has the same name JA and he is total opposite, it is funny how many people look at him twice when they see him and then read his name!!!
happy posting!! cheers

So that's why my dogs work so hard to protect me from the squirrels! I had no idea. Well, an extra milkbone for those two tonight! Tell Will thanks for the information.

You must check out the original 1968 film of The Producers, on which the musical was based. Zero Mostel plays Max Bialystock and (a very young) Gene Wilder plays Leo Bloom. This movie consistently makes me laugh so hard that my sides ache.

Are you talking about Producers with Matthew Broderick in it? It didn't look like anything I'd want to watch except for watching Matt, I've loved him ever since I was about 8 when Ferris came out!
Yay for swimming lessons! I do that yearly with our kids.

(retrieving my bra from the chandelier) Howdy! Hi!

Um...hi. Is this thing on?
I have to confess, I've been shamelessly wallowing in comments over on my blog, WALLOWING, like a happy little pig in her comment-mud.
And then? Then I go to allll the blogs I adore, and...um...think about how I really need to comment this week.
*hangs head in shame*
But as of now, I officially de-lurk.
Allow me to say HI and LOVE YOUR WRITING and YOUR HAIR IS PRETTY!

Thank you so much for DLW! I borrowed one of your buttons and I have had some people de-lurk whom I really admire. Yay! Thank you!

Seriously -- best banner EVER. Please keep this one around for a while.
Also, no-one is de-lurking for me. I think it might be because I'm insulting them in my little button that asks them to. Possibly this is not the right tactic.

The comment by MaryRWise is right on - the original of "The Producers" was a howl! Find it...
I found you through Tamar, who found you through LizDitz, who found you through...
Interesting stuff you've got here...I'll be back. Come see me sometime...and delurk!

I like your blog, Corndog pointed me over here to celebrate de-lurking week, so I couldn't leave without commenting. Have a great week!

I saw the new Producers movie as well, just to see what all the hubbub was about. Man, what a stinkeroo. It cost me two valuable hours, but I would have felt a lot worse had I dropped $250 to see it live.
So glad to see that DLW has become such a widespread phenomenomenon.

Okay, I guess I should de-lurk here at the founder of this great week.
Just saying hi from my little corner of the blogosphere.

Hello from another de-lurker (although I'm not sure I actually count as a de-lurker since I do comment on this blog more or less regularly) but aaaannyyyway. I love your blog.
Thanks to Will for warning us about squirrels. That's hilarious.
Oh, also - thanks for de-lurking on my blog!

Oh, I so love Will. Perhaps I will not be so eager to shout SQUIRREL! every time I see one. Since they might choose to eat me and that would be bad.
But I want The Producers to be good. I loved the first one.

I actually enjoyed the Producers, but I did have to shift my perceptions somewhat to do so... especially because the original movie was so great. The thing I liked least about it was Matthew Broderick's over-the-top acting. He performed as though he were still on the stage, and, as you pointed out, that doesn't translate well to the screen. But Will Ferrell was genius! And I, and the group I was with, laughed a whole lot more than the rest of the audience. Getting to that point, for me, took a little doing, but once I put myself into that zone, I loved it.
But I am not here to critique films. I am here to de-lurk! And to say how wildly successful De-Lurking Week has been for me (even though I keep calling it "De-Lurker Week" on the buttons I made, because I am an idiot.)
So, hey! Kudos on the whole thing. Phenomenal.

Glad to hear you're enjoying the AW. I have to say that even the trailers of The Producers looked lame. ;)

I will comment! I will do anything to be thin! haha
I have enjoyed your writing! And, of course, I blog for the comments! I'm not kidding anyone if I say otherwise.

I've commented before- but will still pop up and say hello. No one delurked for me- but then I only have two people who visit my site. I should have borrowed one of your buttons...
Great blog!(yours, I mean...)
